Blogger blocks image links from WordPress

Filed under: Internet — harshdeep @ 9:20 pm

I just shifted my blog from Blogspot(Blogger) to WordPress to get rid of the noob tag. I think a lot of people do this because WordPress has this cool feature of importing an entire blog from Blogger, Typepad or Movable Type.

But then I discovered something really frustrating. I lot of pictures that I had posted on my previous blog stopped showing on my new blog. I used to upload those pictures either with Hello or the web interface of Blogger.com. The uploaded pics went to photos1.blogger.com. If these pics are linked from a Blogspot blog or if you go to them directly (by typing the URL in the address bar of the browser), they are accessible, but if the referring link is from WordPress, you get an error like this:

ERROR

The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://localhost:10141/img/162/1334/1024/IMG_0103.jpgThe following error was encountered:

  • Access Denied. Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is incorrect.

Your cache administrator is webmaster.

I think this has been done to discourage the migration of blogs from blogspot to wordpress and if that’s the case, it’s a lame act.

Note: If you open the Blogspot blog before opening the new WordPress blog imported from it, some pics may start showing as the browser may pick them up from the cache.
